DR IYAD ISMAIL
I have been a respiratory consultant since 2015 currently practicing at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB). I have held senior positions at the trust including a respiratory lead for Good Hope site and lung cancer lead for the trust. I have an interest in lung cancer, pleural and large airway disease. I also look after patients with COPD, asthma, sleep apnoea, interstitial lung disease, cough and assessment of breathlessness.
My overseas experience has helped me work in the NHS in many ways. Working in Jordan, a country known for its limited resources, meant I had to provide best and safest possible patient care with the available logistics.
I am self-critical of my practice against patient outcomes. This has helped me develop and refine both my skills and knowledge. I have on many occasions called patients to check on their progress after an introduction of a new treatment or to inform them of test results.
In my leisure time, I enjoy watching football and strongly support Liverpool. I am an LFC member along with my son and we both try to get to matches at Anfield when we get match tickets.
